Progress So Far

We intend to update this site most weeks with pictures and comments on progress to date.

We moved to Italy at the beginning of November 2006 and started work on the renovation straight-away.

One initial task was to clear the land, cutting down months of growth of grass, bramble and nettles to give us more pleasant and more easily tended surroundings.

Also, on arrival, we continued to work with the Geometra (cross between an architect and a surveyor) to finalise our plans and to obtain planning permission from the local Comune.

Whilst awaiting planning permission there are plenty of other tasks for us to be getting on with including getting our own accommodation up to scratch and we can start on some of the 'destruction' tasks in the outbuildings such as taking up floors and knocking down walls. There are also a few minor repairs to perform to broken windows and broken and missing roof tiles, dripping taps and leaking radiators.

On a personal note, of course, we also will have to familiarise ourselves with our surroundings, get our daughter Kate established in the local school, find activities for both Leon and Kate to do in their spare time and, very importantly, crack-on with learning Italian.

And we will have to familiarise ourselves with the local restaurants and bars and sample the local wines so that we can confidently make recommendations to our customers - it's a dirty job but someone has to do it!!
